Short Introduction

Ahmed Javed Chowdhury is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Department of Business Administration, City University, Bangladesh. He is an accomplished educator, author, and social activist dedicated to transforming education and inspiring positive change in Bangladesh. With over 15 years of experience in teaching economics at different universities, he has played a pivotal role in conceptualizing and developing academic and educational projects. Ahmed is recognized as an advisor for more than 35 projects across leading public and private universities in Bangladesh, including the prestigious Dhaka University. His expertise extends to authoring and editing nine published books and one yearly journal from major publishing houses in Bangladesh. He has also contributed eight peer-reviewed journal articles to renowned publications such as The Bangladesh Development Studies (BDS) Journal and The Journal of Political Economy. Ahmed Javed Chowdhury has been at the forefront of an educational revolution in Bangladesh. His transformative approaches and initiatives have garnered 10 prestigious recognitions from national and international institutions, reflecting his significant impact on education and community development. Throughout his career, Ahmed has facilitated numerous lecture series, seminars, and international conferences, hosting distinguished scholars, including Nobel Laureate Economist Professor Amartya Sen, Former Chief Economist of the World Bank Professor Kaushik Basu, Professor Emeritus Dr. Preasanta Pattanaik, Professor Azizur Rahman Khan (University of California, Riverside, USA), Professor Jean Dreze (University of Ranchi, India; Ex-LSE Prof.) Professor Dr. Siddiqur Rahman Osmani (Ulster University, UK), Dr. Mushtaq Khan (SOAS, UK), Professor Sugata Bose (Harvard University), Professor Naila Kabeer (LSE, UK), Professor Mozaffar Qizilbash (University of York, UK), Dr. Sayantan Ghoshal (Adam Smith Chair in Political Economy, University of Glasgow) and others. In  2021:  Received  University  of  Hawaii’s  East-West  Center  Fellowship  in  2021

In  2023:  Received  the  Best  Award  of  the  12th  Certificate  Course  on  Genocide  and  Justice  organized  by  the  Centre  for  Study  of  Genocide  and  Justice  (CSGJ)  at  the  Liberation  War  Museum  (LWM).  The  course  took  place  from  August  18  to  September  9,  2023,  at  LWM:  Agargaon,  Sher-e-Banglanagar,  Dhaka.  The  award  and  certificate  were  presented  by  Chief  Justice  Obaidul  Hassan  and  Mr.  Mofidul  Hoque,  Trustee  and  Director  of  CSGJ  at  LWM.

Impact  and  Knowledge  Exchange
He  has  been  a  Principal  Investigator  (PI)  /  Co-Principal  Investigator  (Co-I)  on  several  competitive  projects  funded  by  research  grants  (totaling  over  USD  4.5  million  over  the  last  14  years)  on  topics  ranging  from  poverty  and  exclusion,  policy  failures  of  macroeconomics,  and  the  political  economy.
